PDRC Pro Import is an exciting initiative by the Professional Drag Racing Championship to introduce the popular Sport Compact scene to championship racing on a national level. As the bracket begins its exhibition phase, Sydney’s Eddy Hawach is eager to lend his support in showcasing and building the bracket.
Hawach's belief in Pro Import bracket saw his company Enviro Waste Services Group support the bracket as naming right sponsor at the opening PDRC event in Sydney. Hawach has raced for over two decades, initially with a Mazda RX3 all the way to his RX7 Pro Import animal that he will be bringing to Dragway At The Bend on February 8th and 9th.
“I’ve always been passionate about speed and performance, and drag racing provides the perfect combination of adrenaline, competition, and innovation for me,” said Hawach.
The creation of a Pro Import national series will require a significant shifting in thinking for Sport Compact or Import racers who normally compete at stand alone events.
“I believe Pro Import is a game changer for Sports Compact racers. It provides a dedicated platform for import cars to compete, allowing us to showcase our cars and driving skills,” said Hawach.
“The future of Pro Import looks bright, with a growing field of competitors and increasing popularity among fans, it represents a significant shift in thinking, as it acknowledges the importance and popularity of import drag racing. It’s an exciting time for the sport, and I’m eager to see how Pro Import in Australia will evolve and grow.”
Hawach’s current Pro Import missile of choice is an RX7 FD with a twist. Initially the RX7 was powered by a more traditional 20B Rotary, but the team found they couldn’t be competitive or consistent with the 20B and swapped to piston power. In went a GAS Racing 2JZ powerplant backed by an Al’s Race Glides Turbo 400 that drove Hawach to a current best off 6.44 at 223mph, still Hawach wants to run at the front of the pack.
“We are planning on building a new Pro Import car this year, to compete with the faster guys in the Pro Import category,” he said.
Running not one, but two championship classes requires a huge commitment, and Pro Import is not Hawach’s only championship interest, he was due to race in PDRC Pro Mod with his five-second twin turbo Mustang until an accident in testing has delayed the debut.
“Unfortunately, I recently suffered an incident in my Pro Mod car, which resulted in significant damage. Its currently being repaired now and should be ready March. I plan to run double duty in the coming year in both Pro Import and Pro Mod, pushing my cars to new limits” said Hawach.
Pro Import will run exhibition at the upcoming February 8th and 9th PDRC event at Dragway At The Bend, a venue Hawach is looking forward to return to.
“I have raced at The Bend for Adeliade Jamboree, The Bend is a fast track with a good braking area with great pit access for the fans which gives it a great atmosphere,” he said.
“I’d like to thank my family, crew, friends, and sponsors for their unwavering support. I’m grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion for drag racing. Without these guys I can’t go racing”
